Questions About Your Care
We want you to feel informed and comfortable before you ever walk through our doors.
From insurance and payment to what happens during your first appointment, here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often.
Before Your Visit
-
Please bring:
A valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license or government-issued passport
A form of payment
Any relevant medical records or documents that may help us better understand your health history
Helpful documents may include a current medication list, medical notes from another provider, or previous X-ray or MRI reports.
-
If you already have relevant imaging or medical records, we recommend bringing them with you.
They may provide useful context, particularly if you have a pre-existing condition, previous injury, or have already received care from another provider.
You do not need to obtain new imaging before your appointment unless you have been specifically instructed to do so.
-
No, a referral is not required to schedule an appointment with us.
Payment & Insurance
-
Vital Roots Chiropractic primarily operates as a cash office.
This means we are not in-network with most medical insurance plans. This model allows us greater flexibility in how care is provided and how services are priced.
However, we are currently in-network with select insurance providers listed below.
-
Vital Roots currently lists in-network participation with:
UnitedHealthcare (UHC)
Cigna*
Blue Cross Blue Shield
Florida Blue
Insurance plans and benefits can vary, even within the same insurance company.
We recommend contacting your insurance provider or our office before your appointment to confirm whether chiropractic services are covered under your specific plan.
*Select Cigna plans are managed by Ashlink.
Ashlink is a third party clearinghouse that the health insurance contracts with to handle claim submission of specific plans under the insurance.
-
Being out-of-network does not necessarily mean your insurance provides no benefits for your care.
In the case that your plan is out-of-network, our office can provide you with a document called a Superbill which you are able to submit to your insurance for possible coverage and reimbursement.
-
A Superbill is a document containing information about the services you received that may be submitted to your insurance company when seeking reimbursement under applicable out-of-network benefits.
Receiving a Superbill does not guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse you.
Coverage and reimbursement depend on your individual insurance plan.
-
Vital Roots participates with Patient Options DMCO, a discount care organization that allows participating offices to offer eligible patients access to services at reduced fees.
There is currently no cost to Vital Roots patients to participate and no obligation to receive ongoing care.
-
Yes.
Even when Vital Roots participates with your insurance company, individual plans may have different deductibles, copays, limitations, or chiropractic benefits.
We recommend confirming coverage with your insurance provider or contacting our office before your visit.
-
Payment for services is collected on the day care is provided.
-
Vital Roots currently accepts:
HSA
Cash
Check
Debit Card
Credit Card
Your First Visit
-
Your first visit begins with understanding you before making any recommendations about care.
The process may include:
01 Comprehensive Assessment
02 Physical Examination
03 Discussion of Findings
04 Additional Diagnostic Testing, if needed
05 Personalized Care Recommendations
06 Treatment, when appropriate
07 Post-Visit Guidance
Not every patient will require every step. Your visit is based on your individual health history, concerns, examination, and needs.
-
We begin by reviewing your health history, current concerns, and any symptoms you may be experiencing.
This conversation gives Dr. Rhett important context about what brought you in, what you have experienced previously, and what you would like to improve.
-
Your examination may include an assessment of:
Posture
Range of motion
Relevant joint movement
Orthopedic testing
Neurological testing
The specific examination will depend on your symptoms, health history, and reason for visiting.
-
Not every patient requires diagnostic imaging.
If Dr. Rhett determines that additional information would be helpful or necessary, he may recommend X-rays, an MRI, or another form of testing before moving forward with certain care.
-
No.
Vital Roots does not currently perform X-rays or MRIs in the office.
If imaging is recommended, Dr. Rhett can provide an appropriate order or referral so the testing can be completed elsewhere.
-
Yes.
After your evaluation, Dr. Rhett will discuss his findings with you and explain what they may mean.
This is also your opportunity to ask questions.
We believe you should understand your care and your options before deciding how you would like to move forward.
Treatment & Next Steps
-
Possibly.
After completing your evaluation and discussing the findings with you, Dr. Rhett may provide treatment during your first visit when he determines that it is appropriate.
In some situations, additional testing, imaging, or another evaluation may be recommended first.
-
No.
An adjustment is recommended only when Dr. Rhett determines that it is appropriate based on your evaluation.
Your care may also incorporate other approaches depending on your individual needs.
-
Tell us.
Questions and concerns about treatment are always welcome.
If you are uncomfortable with a particular technique or nervous about an adjustment to your spine or neck, discuss it with Dr. Rhett. Alternative treatment methods may be available depending on your needs and evaluation.
You should understand and feel comfortable with your care before moving forward.
-
Depending on your evaluation and goals, recommendations may include:
Chiropractic adjustments
Therapeutic exercise
Soft-tissue techniques
Lifestyle recommendations
Guidance for movement or activity outside the office
Recommendations regarding the frequency of follow-up visits
Your care plan should be personalized to your individual needs rather than based on a one-size-fits-all schedule.
-
When appropriate, yes.
Post-visit guidance may include exercises, movement recommendations, lifestyle modifications, or other actions you can take between appointments.
Vital Roots believes your role in your health extends beyond what happens during an office visit.
